Make Your Christmas Proposal Perfect with These Tips

In Christmas

Christmas is one of the most popular times to get engaged, and it's easy to see why. The twinkling lights, cozy evenings, and an abundance of generosity practically beg for such an occasion.

While we think Christmas proposals can be wonderful, we have some ideas to help you make it more than just a cookie-cutter event.

How to Make Your Christmas Proposal Special

Some women joke that they feel cheated if they get proposed to on Christmas because a proposal should be its own special thing and not doubled up with a holiday. However, if you put a little effort into making the proposal special, it'll be less "I didn't know what to get you" and more "This is the best day ever."

Make it Fun

Arranging a scavenger hunt, wrapping the ring inside several other boxes, or proposing at a different time than the gift opening are just a few ways to change things up. Make the proposal representative of you and her by utilizing inside jokes or referencing shared memories.

Pay Attention to Timing

If you and your soon-to-be fiance are close to family, including them might be a great idea. However, if you usually don't spend a lot of time with respective relatives, or if she's a more private person, it might be best to find a private time to propose.

Be True to You

You might feel pressure to make the proposal an elaborate event, or you may find yourself reading about all the wild and unique ways others have proposed. Before you get too wrapped up in ideas, be sure that you are keeping it real. If something feels outside of your comfort zone, maybe it's not the right move. And, if something feels like it's totally outside her comfort zone, definitely avoid that method.

Other Proposal Ideas

Christmas might be the go-to day to propose, but that doesn't mean it's the best day. The entire Christmas season is full of magic and wonder, and there are plenty of opportunities to propose. For instance, attending a light or tree festival, arranging an outing to a concert or a skating rink, or even just taking a drive for a picnic in the snow can be wonderful ways to plan a special proposal.

A few other non-Christmas-Day times to propose:

  • Christmas Eve, after the parties and hoopla, when it's just the two of you
  • New Years' (at midnight!)
  • When you're finding a Christmas tree
  • The day before Christmas
  • On a sleigh ride
  • During a Christmas card photoshoot

There are so many romantic moments during the holidays; you really can't go wrong!

Put Effort into Finding the Perfect Ring

Of course, the proposal is the main event, but the ring is the star of that event, so make sure you find the very best engagement ring.
