Christmas is one of the most popular times to get engaged, and it's easy to see why. The twinkling lights, cozy evenings, and an abundance of generosity practically beg for such an occasion.
While we think Christmas proposals can be wonderful, we have some ideas to help you make it more than just a cookie-cutter event.
Some women joke that they feel cheated if they get proposed to on Christmas because a proposal should be its own special thing and not doubled up with a holiday. However, if you put a little effort into making the proposal special, it'll be less "I didn't know what to get you" and more "This is the best day ever."
Arranging a scavenger hunt, wrapping the ring inside several other boxes, or proposing at a different time than the gift opening are just a few ways to change things up. Make the proposal representative of you and her by utilizing inside jokes or referencing shared memories.
If you and your soon-to-be fiance are close to family, including them might be a great idea. However, if you usually don't spend a lot of time with respective relatives, or if she's a more private person, it might be best to find a private time to propose.
You might feel pressure to make the proposal an elaborate event, or you may find yourself reading about all the wild and unique ways others have proposed. Before you get too wrapped up in ideas, be sure that you are keeping it real. If something feels outside of your comfort zone, maybe it's not the right move. And, if something feels like it's totally outside her comfort zone, definitely avoid that method.
Christmas might be the go-to day to propose, but that doesn't mean it's the best day. The entire Christmas season is full of magic and wonder, and there are plenty of opportunities to propose. For instance, attending a light or tree festival, arranging an outing to a concert or a skating rink, or even just taking a drive for a picnic in the snow can be wonderful ways to plan a special proposal.
